A REAL-life session is fun, relaxed, beautiful and adventurous. Instead of thinking about having photos taken, consider planning a great family adventure which will be recorded for you to remember forever. There's nothing you really have to 'do' other than be yourselves and enjoy your special Whānau time together. the session itself is as much a part of the experience as the photography.

crazy . beautiful . life

A Real-life photo story is a fantastic opportunity for your family to set aside time to be together, to enjoy one another, and to be present. Most clients choose a session with me because they want to invest in the creation of special memories for their family. It's not just a financial investment; it's also about quality time.

I ask for all of my sessions to be technology-free zones so that you can really focus on each other. Spend a couple of hours (or a full day!) doing things together that you love to do. It doesn't matter what it is. It can be as simple as pancakes and board games at home, or it can be an outing to the beach or foraging in the forest. The activity doesn't matter; it's just amazing to see the joy on your children's faces when they have their parents' undivided attention for a whole afternoon. It really is magical and I promise these will become some of your most cherished memories.

Liz was amazing - so incredibly warm, open and accommodating. She came and joined my crazy family for a day in Akaroa and captured the most beautiful moments.

Janet + Graeme

It’s like the kids have become so comfortable they have forgotten you are there! Just brilliant. We loved the time with you too.

Jo + Dean

The photos are just brilliant! It was so nice to have such a wonderful day and Liz captured the essence of our family and way of life.

What should we wear?

Family Photo-Stories can be done anywhere, even in your own home. The really special thing about an in-home session is the opportunity to capture your kids in your own home with your own things. Often your child may not actually grow up in that house forever so it's a lovely way for them to have a record of their time in a special place. Some kids are just more comfortable in their own space too.
If you have particularly active kids who like to be outdoors an adventure session might be for you. We can go anywhere and do anything you like to do together. Choose something to do that your kids will be excited about, our session is about the experience of sharing family time, the photographs are not the main event.

Where will we have our session?

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Firstly, be comfortable! I don't ask families to co-ordinate their wardrobe so I can have a well curated instagram feed. I want you to choose clothes you like. If you are planning on purchasing wall-art then you could think about what you would like to display on your walls. I do suggest avoiding large logos, characters and fluoro colours because they tend to dominate. But ultimately this session is about your family. What do your kids like to wear? What allows their personalities to shine? Try to let that inform your choices.

What about the weather?

For Real-Life photo sessions the weather doesn't really matter, unless you are set on a particular outdoor adventure activity. For in-home sessions there are lots of super fun things to do together indoors. If it is raining we can also put on gumboots and play outside in puddles and then dry off with some fun and laughter afterwards. If you are scheduled for an outdoor adventure session and you would rather postpone to another day, that's fine too.

My child has a bad graze or acne, what can we do?

Don't worry, accidents happen! I am very happy to edit out grazes and scrapes or temporary teenage acne. As a general rule I don't edit anything that is permanently part of someone's body because I want you to see yourselves delightfully as you are. Because this is a real-life session and not glamour portraiture I don't do body-sculpting or extensive photo-retouching.

A Real-Life session is for one nuclear family. One set of Grandparents is also able to participate in your session for no additional charge. It is, of course, absolutely fine to have as many Whānau present at your session as you wish and extended family Whānau reunion sessions are also encouraged. These sessions will incur some additional fees, please inquire.

How many people can be part of the session?

After your session I will send you a slideshow of your images at a time that is convenient for you and you will have 24 hours to view it. This will give you the opportunity to select your preferred package option. All of my packages include a fixed amount of digital files, as well as print credit which can be used to purchase your choice of stunning products from your online store. Once you have chosen your package your gallery will open and you will have one month to download your digital files and select your beautiful print products.

What happens after our session?

It's fine to postpone your session due to illness. There's nothing worse than trying to do family photos when someone in your family is unwell. If I happen to be unwell on the day of your session I will also postpone so as not to pass on any sickness to you.
I am unable to  photograph your family if we are in Covid alert level 3 or 4. If there is a change in alert level at a time when we have a session planned then I will work with you reschedule for a suitable time.

What happens if we get sick?

Allow 90 minutes for your real-life session and plan to schedule your activities accordingly. Even if you are doing an in-home session you will still need to have a couple of activities planned - try to make sure they are things you can do together with your child(ren).
I also offer a half or full Day-in-the-life session. Half day is for 3-4 hours, a full day is 8 hours. In these sessions I come and hang out with you for a larger chunk of time and I have the opportunity to document a lot more of your family time.

How long will the session go for?
